“Here I Am” is the title song of the first solo mini album released by Super Junior member Ye Sung on April 19, 2016. He spent a long time preparing this album, working hard to create it, hoping to infect others with music.
The previous blogs were all about Korean group songs, but this time I will share a song by a single singer. Remember the Super Junior I introduced last time? The song to be shared this time is the song from the solo album of their member Yesung.
A brief introduction to the singer
Kim Jongwoon, stage name is Yesung. The company deliberately came up with this stage name for him, which means the voice of art. In 2001, he participated in the SM BEST Trial and won the singing award, and officially entered the S.M. Entertainment.
In April 2010, he sang the theme song “You Must” (너 아니면 안돼) for the TV series “Cinderella’s Sister”. This song became popular in Korea all at once, and he was well known by everyone.
After a lapse of 6 years, he released his first solo mini album “Here I Am”. The overall song style of this album is mainly lyrical and contains seven songs in total. And I’m going to introduce the title song “Here I Am” from the album of the same name.
Analysis of this song
This song is a lyrical narrative that highlights the tragic voice of Yesung. Yesung personally participated in the composition of lyrics and music to create it. He wrote lyrics based on his own personal experience, hoping to convey his sentiment.
The lyrics tell the story of the boy who missed the past and came to the door of the house where they once lived together after the couple broke up. It describes the happy memories between them in the past, which is in sharp contrast with the loneliness of boys today. The regret and sorrow of the whole song continued to deepen. In the end, although the singing stops, people’s moods can not be calm for a long time.

Because the lyrics of this song will be more impressive than the melody, this time I decided to focus on analyzing the plot expressed by the lyrics.
The lyrics are carried out from the first point of view of the boy after the breakup. He can not accept the life of leaving his girlfriend, and plans to find her. “It seems that I lost my watch. I see the empty arm on one side and realize that it is not because of the watch, but because your hand once covered my arm, but now you have not even left a trace of temperature.” This sentence in the lyrics explains the background of the entire song clearly, and reflects the sadness and discomfort of the boy today.
In the lyrics, the boy buys something that the girl likes and goes to find her, trying to make peace with her. The song has also reached a climax here. “Please open the door” repeats in the chorus, accompanies by Yesung’s hoarse voice, amplifies the sadness infinitely. No matter what the boy does, the girl doesn’t seem to be accepting him anymore. “I have come here. Why do you pretend not to know?” The lyrics can’t help but feel very heartbroken.
After the chorus ends, the turning point of the song begins to appear. “It seems that only my voice is reverberating, and it seems that only my heart still exists.” This melody seems to be an inner cry. He is trying to awaken the girl’s heart through this song, but nothing is of any use.
At the end, the lyrics of the chorus are repeated again, and the mood that is supposed to calm down rises again. By the time the last sentence “Please open the door”, the melody becomes soothed until the end of the song. The boy’s mind may have been completely let go, or he is just disappointed because of repeated rejections. The story in the song just ends in this way.
In general, the lyrics match the melody very well. Yesung is like telling a story for us, with a cause, a process, a climax, and a result. We experienced a vigorous love with the singer, and finally lost this love with him.
